Giving Entire Cultures a Personality Test

Nowadays, almost every nation is believed to have their unique traits. For example Texans are independent and rugged, New Englanders are unfriendly. Psychologist organized an experiment.

A large group of people with different cultures from 50 countries were given questioner in which they could indicate the characteristics most suitable for members of their culture. After that, researchers could compare answers from questioner with personality test given to the participators. Questioner showed that people with same culture answered the same: Canadians thinks that they are highly agreeable, Australians think that they are introverts. More important that answers of test and questioners were different. It means that stereotypes which are given to nations are wrong. Researchers considered that maybe they were historically accurate sometime ago, but now they are outdated and do not represent true national character.

To sum up, national character is not what people are, but it is what people think about themselves.
